Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple, Ullanje

Kateel (additionally known as Kateelu) is a temple metropolis positioned at a distance of 29 km from Mangalore town in Dakshina Kannada district. This sacred vicinity is surrounded through panoramic scenes and appealing greeneries. History: whilst Goddess Durga killed Shumbha and Nishumbha, Arunasura, one of the ministers, had fled from the battlefield and stored his lifestyles. Later he have become the leader of the Rakshasas (demons). He commenced to disturb the sages and destruct their Yajnahs. As a result, the Devas stopped raining, which resulted in overall draught and scarcity of water and food grains on the planet. Moved by using the pathetic conditions of the human beings Maharshi Jabali, the high-quality sage decided to carry out a Yajnah to assuage the Devas.

He approached Devendra and asked him to send Kamadhenu (a sacred cow) with him for the ritual. Considering the fact that Kamadhenu have been to Varuna Loka, Devendra permitted the sage to take Nandini, the daughter of Kamadhenu with a purpose to help him as Homadhenu (symbolic cow for ritual) in his proposed Yajna. Jabali went to Nandini and put forth his request. In reply Nandini abused the earth and the humans there and refused to accompany him. Whilst the sage located that Nandini became company in her refusal, he cursed her to glide as a river on the earth. As Nandini prayed Jabali for mercy, kindhearted sage suggested her to wish Adhishakti to get free of the curse. For that reason she prayed Adhishakti. Thrilled by using her deep meditation Goddess seemed before Nandini and advised her that she has to flow as a river as a result of the curse, because no person can trespass the sentences (Rishi Vakya) of a holy sage. But she added “I shall take delivery as your daughter in due route and purify you from this curse”. Happy by way of this warranty Nandini emerged as a river from Kanakagiri at the day of Magha Shuddha Poornima and made the earth inexperienced once again.

In the meantime Arunasura received a boon from Brahma, which made him free from fear of loss of life by Trinity, Devas, guys or women or by using any legged or 4 legged animals & creatures. Goddess Saraswathi also blessed him with Gayathri Mantra (Holy chants). These kind of made him the most effective. He defeated the Devatas and conquered Heaven. Disheartened by disastrous defeat, the Devatas, along side Trinity pleaded Adhishakti for the rescue. Goddess said that until and till Arunasura is prevented from reciting Gayathri Mantra she too could now not be capable of break him. She advised them to ship Brihaspathi (Guru of Devatas) to distract Arunasura from his meditation of Gayathri, and make him cast off Gayathri recitation so that she would be able to kill him.
