Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, Vijayawada

The Kanaka Durga Temple, situated in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is perched on the Indrakeeladri hill, overlooking the Krishna River. Ancient texts such as the Kaalika puraana, Durgaa sapthashati, and other Vedic literature have mentioned the presence of Goddess Kanaka Durga on the Indrakeelaadri hill, describing her as a self-manifested deity during the Triteeya kalpa.

Legend has it that Goddess Durga radiated a golden glow, equivalent to the brilliance of millions of suns, from this mountain. Impressed by her divine aura, Indra and the other deities began praising her as “KANAKA DURGA” and started worshipping her daily. Adjacent to Durga Devi, on her left side, lies the sacred “Sri Chakaram,” with a Ganapati Deity placed beside it. Therefore, during the worship of the Goddess, all rituals are exclusively performed for the “Sri Chakaram.” Kanaka Durgamma is depicted with eight arms, each holding a different weapon, including the Chakra, Conch, Bow and Arrow, Sword, Spear, Club, Trident, Thunderbolt, and Lotus.
